Community CareFlight Day
Sunday, September 14, 2008 9am - 4pm
Tahmoor Oval, Thirlmere Way, Tahmoor.
The Wollondilly Shire in Sydney’s south west will host CareFlight’s biggest ever community fundraiser on Sunday, September 14.
The life saving service visits the rural shire almost once a week and has saved the lives of hundreds of its residents. This September Tahmoor Oval will be at full capacity with stalls, entertainment, activities and a super auction to raise money to keep CareFlight in the air.
Last year the community day raised more than $40,000 bringing the total raised since 2006 to $70,000. This year organisers Di Clarke from NRMA Picton and Diana Lange from Tahmoor Town Centre said they hoped to bring that total to more than $100,000.
“This would be an amazing achievement for such a small community like ours, Wollondilly has a heartbeat and it’s pumping” Ms Clarke said.
“We plan to have the oval packed with entertainment and exhibitions to suit people of all ages.”
This year’s fund-raising day is expected to fill Tahmoor Oval with a range of entertainment, displays and interesting demonstrations.
Visitors can expect to see the RAAF Hot Air Balloon, National Parks and Wildlife Squirrel helicopter, the CareFlight interactive Winch Simulator, a Sculpture by the Road Exhibition, Show `n’ Shine car display, the NSW Dog Squad, NSW Mounted Police, dog agility displays, stage entertainment including the infamous Ravi & his “Feathered Friends”, a lifestyle marquee, roving entertainment, horticultural demonstrations, emergency service displays, circus art performers a Wheelchair Race and school relay.
Entertainment for the day includes Luke Koteras, Tori Darke, Michael Montgomery, Steve Graham performing the song he personally wrote titled “CareFlight you saved me”, The Spice Weazels, Picton Strings and Campbelltown Performing Arts High School.
Ms Lange said that aside from CareFlight the focus of the day will be to showcase what our fabulous shire has to offer.
“We will also be incorporating Derks rural field day on the oval this year. This will include numerous agricultural displays and information plus presentations from veterinarians, pet nutritionists, produce manufacturers, animal groups and alike,” Ms Lange said.
“This year we plan to focus on our shire by exhibiting our local products and produce wherever possible. The new Lifestyle Marquee will replace our VIP marquee and this year will be available for everyone who would like to purchase a ticket to indulge in this unique experience.”
Wollondilly Shire Council has also supported the event by offering free microchipping for pets on the day.
Local radio identity Patrick McGeown will MC the entertainment and charity auction from the C91.3 main stage on the day which will include items that have been generously donated by local businesses and organisations.
Lions Club Tahmoor in conjunction with Beno’s Family Meats will run a mega barbeque with sausage sandwiches, steak sandwiches, tea, cake and coffee and Bronzewing Tours will provide FREE bus transport to and from the oval picking up in Campbelltown, Camden, Narellan, Picton, The Oaks, Thirlmere, Buxton, Bargo and Tahmoor.
